The cultural and pictorial training of Giampaolo Corona was mainly during the period after the Second World War, when the need of a new world and to fight also phisically for it certannly couldn't forecast the disillusion that would have unfoled in the near future. It was during this period that one felt responsible for the realisation of a new world, in witch man could truly feel creator and promoter of his own civilization. We are about the years when Corona workwd and lived in Bassano and studied in Bologna, years of realismo socialista, characterized by the freedom and vitality of Art. In 1950, in Bassano, Corona in cooperation whit sculptor Romano Carotti was promoter of a new group called Prisma. He started his own activity as sculptor and painted. He attended engineerin in Bologna, were he took part of the artistic and the cultural discussions in town. He was in contact with, and became friends with well known painters and artists, such as Treccani, Borgonzoni, Ricci, Guttuso, Pizzinato and he tried to get together other emerging artists and worked for cultural periodicals and magazines. At an exhibition, "Mostra di pittura in bianco e nero", (Bologna 1953), he was awarted with the second prize, in the jury there were people such as Arcangeli, De Grada, Borgonzoni, and Mandelli. In 1953, for personal reasons, he was obliged to return to Belluno where his father worked and here was submitted to a quiet period when his painting stopped. Society found itself in a moment of a complete upswing in the economy he had to re-enter into the company of is father and the world of business that led him unwittingly into a work field which totally omitted the interest and flame of the world of art. It turned out to be just a temporary "change" in his life. In 1963, in Trieste, he started strong relationships with men of culture, painters and sculptors such a Zigaina, Mascherini, Spacal, Rosignano, Tomizza and he founded his own art gallery named "la Torbandena" that became a centre for cultural debates. In 1963, the dam of Vajont collapsed and he sensed their cry of pain and the blood tie to this land that he still felt his. Immediately in his heart, he felt the need to join the survivors, and to take part in the catastrophe. He saw look of death in their eyes, sealed with pain, and observed the hands thats automatically worked to hide this human martyrdom, he analysed the hallucinated expressions on their faces that couldn't feeel a part of their land, because the rage and hate was still so alive and strong, due to the negligence of the people responsible. He studied and prepared a new idea for a big canvas in which the drama and the tragedy were of "the survivors". In 1971 Corona met Angela, his wife, who with love and devotion, patiently persuaded hin to devote himself entirely to painting. It wasn't to easy to leave the world of business that he had been obliged to enter, he had to swallow a bitter pill to do so. From 1964 to 1976, his work was full of this painful dualism, also his portraits of friends and acquaintances were characterized by it. His works of art are on show at the "Museo di Arte Moderna della Fondazione Cardinale Giacomo Lercaro" at Ponticello di S.Lazzaro di Savena (Bologna), an at the "Museo l'Immagine della Resistenza" of Vittorio Veneto (Treviso).
